Following on with our brand new series ‘#Back of the stack’, we’ll be catching up with artists in the scene every 2 weeks reminiscing on some of their favourite tracks from back in the day. No real rules, just sharing some musical knowledge and reflecting on the past.

This week we have one half of Ram Records legends Moving Fusion, Sparfunk. Responsible for some of the scene’s most devastating tunes such as The Beginning , Atlantis, Thunderball and the anthem of anthems Turbulence, Sparfunk has destroyed many a dance! Since going solo, he’s launched his own label Terrafunk Recordings and has been asked to do countless remixes; couple all this with DJ’ing around the globe and he’s has been a busy guy that just loves being involved in Drum and Bass. Currently he has teamed up with Danny Wheeler under the pseudonym Hidden Room, making all genres of music and commissioning music for media.

‘N.W.A. Straight Outta Compton’

When I was a kid and I first heard this track it had everything you could have wanted I played the whole NWA album on my Walkman day and night but this one was the killer tune And it included the Amen break which as we all know is the daddy of DnB Jungle breaks

‘Human Resource  – Dominator’

Massive game changer!

I remember tuning into Centreforce 88.3 FM with a finger at the ready on the record button of my twin tape ghetto blaster, I didn’t wanna miss this one ! Catchy vocal hook, that Dominator sound too they go together so well.

‘Firefox – Bonanza Kid’

This was a sick 12″ back in the day as it also had Buck Rogers on the flip side. I remember hearing this at the Island in Ilford which was our local rave back then. The rising sounds before the drop are quite panicking but then the bass hits and it’s a positively uplifting riff. I don’t think I owned a copy so I’ll have to big up one my old crew for the purchase, we had this spinning on the 1210s constantly!

This is just three favourites I wish I could have more.
