Son of a Rock n’ Roll musician Father & Piano teaching Mother, exposed to and surrounded by music from an early age; it’s no wonder Madcap’s (aka Elliot Payne) career & back catalogue spans over 15 years.
Boasting several releases & long-term residencies in Oxford, London, Aylesbury, Birmingham & High Wycombe, as well as support from LTJ Bukem, Randall, & Fabio & Grooverider, Madcap’s latest offering is courtesy of London based imprint Creative Wax Recordings.
First up is ‘King Dread’, a jungle-esque, break heavy tune dripping with old-school soundscapes and a catchy brass hook. A distinct 90’s sound commands nostalgia, while the militant drums add an up to date twist on a classic sounding production.
On the flip side of this divine 12″ is dreamy roller ‘Things I Do’. Scattered soulful vocals weave around warm pads, intricate percussion and Madcap’s familiar breaks, this time with a slightly more melancholic feel in comparison to its counterpart. A solid demonstration of Madcap’s skill set across the spectrum.
