Belgian producer Solace having his input into Ronin Ordinance, gaining widespread attention at only 12 releases deep. Following on from their release from Fuj, the multifaceted label flex their A&R skills as well as the refreshing ability to not be restricted to particular strands of Drum and Bass. A pair of dark tracks that will keep you cold towards the end of this frosty winter.
Forbidden Affection starts off the release with spooky, melancholic atmospherics. A stripped back stepper with concise percussion layered with haunting mid ranges using a minimal palette of sounds with maximum attention to detail. Intelligently arranged with switches in pace and full of emotion, this track finely balances the moodiness and energy that comes at this time of year as we wait for the days to get longer.
Paroxysm, a sudden outburst of emotion. The track does exactly as it says on the tin, continuing the vibes on with a more straight-up, regimented beat and guttural sound design. The sparing use of vocals along with the detailed drum work is present again on the release, but in a more aggressive manner on this number as Solace gives us a brief insight into his mature set of sounds.
