Daat's Top Five – Tunes to blow your speaker

Ahead of the Detuned Transmissions London label party, Montreal duo Daat let us in on their top 5 tunes to destroy the sound system. You best be ready!

1) DAAT – Fridge (Overlook Remix) [forthcoming Detuned Transmissions]
Overlook has been dropping hard-hitting, masterfully-produced tracks consistently for years now. He’s a unique entity in the 170 scene, and we really dig the way he’s shaped the elements from Fridge into this behemoth, with lots of layers and drops within drops. We’re quite excited that he’s playing at our Detuned Transmissions night on the 29th.

2) Emptyset – Recur [Raster-Noton]

We’ve been fascinated by Emptyset’s sound, including it in our sets and enjoying the hell out of it. It’s heavy, so heavy, and almost uncomfortably aggressive. Recur dropped on Raster-Noton in 2013, and while there are very few elements present, they are distorted and reverbed out in a way that fills up the entire space. You literally might blow your speakers, so be careful!

3) DAAT – 7D [forthcoming Detuned Transmissions]

With 7D we were tapping into the idea of a tidal generator, some kind of massive ocean-powered machine. The drawn-out intro and sudden drop into the pounding double-time kick section seems to strike the right balance and heightens the impression of power. 7D has been getting really good crowd reactions when we play it out. It’s unreleased as yet but you can check it in our recent Rupture set at about 35 minutes into the mix.

4) Synth Sense – Symbol 9.1 [Auxiliary]

Synth Sense always live up to their name. They’ve got the synth skills and they put them to good effect, shaping dark soundscapes that immerse the listener in a paranoid electronic world. Symbol 9.1 is a deep head-nodder, a good example of what they’re capable of and something that you should most definitely turn all the way up.

5) DAAT – Apache (ASC Remix) [forthcoming Detuned Transmissions]

The original Apache was designed to be an almost entirely ambient soundscape, and ASC flipped it properly—check Loxy’s Cylon podcast at around the 10:30 mark. The industrial vibe and the “step off” attitude turns the club into a vicious machine-shop run by cruel metalloid overlords. How are YOU gonna make it out alive?!
Just make sure your steppin out to Detuned Transmissions this Friday, see the map below 😉
