Turntablists, yes you heard right. Panasonic have announced a relaunch of the iconic Technics turntable at the latest IFA technology fair, Berlin. The Japanese manufacturer unveiled a prototype image of the newly designed direct-drive turntable, something we thought was never going to happen after they announced a cease in manufacturing back in 2010, due to a decrease in demand.
Sources confirmed that the iconic Technics turntable will be re-built with new elements at every level but will still reflect the classic Technics 1200 look and feel. Director of Technics, Michiko Ogawa explains “Turntables are a very iconic product for the Technics brand. It is important to show our sincere dedication [to that]. The turntable market is very small but it is a very important brand product.”
Expect a release date announced soon, with availability inside the UK confirmed.
