SCAR’s forthcoming release on the legendary Metalheadz label is their first E.P on Headz, and there’s some great tunes. The SCAR duo is made up of Watford’s very own Steve Survival (WATFORD I SEES YA) and Mike Script; two artists well respected for their own carefully crafted individual productions within the drum and bass scene. The ‘twosome’ have however been collaborating successfully in recent years.[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he artwork for the release is pretty striking. It really reminds me of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odessey, a masterpiece in its own right. The space ship image might even be a screen of the movie ? Who knows.. but the font is a hundy percent Data 70, the work of Bob Newman in 1970’s.
Anyway, back to the tunes…[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/172127727″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]
So kicking off the E.P we have So Suddenly, A strong stepper with gritty reese bass and filtered mid-ranges. The gently delaying female vox gives the track that much needed salt and pepper until the full vocal line is revealed later in the song. All in all, a strong start to the E.P. The next track on the E.P, Ruby, Is a personal favourite. It’s got some nice rhythmic drums and some dlectable filtered bass line, which complements the drums nicely. It’s really chilled and keeps on rolling, reminds me a little like of a Code 3 track.
Old Ground and Old Time Metal round off the new E.P nicely and it’s definitely worth checking out and maybe even a purchase..
