Peer Pressure Records taken over in 2010 has since been in a state of creative reform, label owner Facing Jinx has brought to the label through his own melodic yet sparse beautifully crafted style a focus on musicality and emotive expression, as a result the label is outputting beats that are offering something a little bit different.
Dropping on the 29th of July, three of Facing Jinx’s finest tunes get the rework, remixed by key members of the Peer Pressure gang, it’s fair to say all three tunes indisputably do the originals justice.
2011’s Sleep In Heaven remixed by Wreckless maintains the melancholic atmosphere created by the original but plays on this by incorporating rhythmic drums and a wonky sub with a dark undercurrent. Next up, two tunes from the highly regarded Emotions EP, where the original of Consumed contains dulcet tones and a deep rolling bass line, Hyroglifics adds a choppier edge, with crisp breaks and a playful, moody sub. Philth’s remix of Hungry is a personal favourite, a soulful original; Philth takes the tune into very dark territory with the presence of a growling bass line and erratic yet well-placed hats that add a filthy twist to an original that in comparison seems angelic. A remix EP that I would highly recommend, Peer Pressure Records is a label to keep an eye on, as are each of these producers.
