Dabs is a name I’ve been hearing a lot of recently; he’s been making waves in drum and bass communities the world over, with a number of heavyweight releases and collabs and support from the scenes finest, this guy just keeps getting better and better, and The Objection EP released today on Dispatch Recordings has without a doubt justified the hype.
The Objection EP is a vibe assault start to finish no doubt about it! Opening tune Objection is an annihilating techy banger that’s dark, sinister and has a damn nasty, bouncing groove. I’d say Crunchbug is probably the only tune I’m not feeling too much, it’s a bit frantic for my liking, but there are unquestionably elements that work well.
The second part of the EP is collab and remix heavy; Back & Forth by Dabs and Safire with Mako, DLR & Ant TC1 on remix duties is a murky but crisp sub-heavy destroyer, probably my favourite tune on the EP. Things take an ambient turn in Hell Rose a collab with Cern- this tune is a malignant roller, the dark sub is contradicted by ambient instrumentation in the foreground – unquestionably tasty. Closing tune Inner Circle with Sapfire again has that techy Dispatch feel to it, a savagely engineered banger! Hats off, this is a brilliant EP!
