[dropcap]F[/dropcap]inally, Ulterior Motive are back with another killer release on the mighty Metalheadz! It’s been just over a year since we’ve heard from these guys but believe me when I say it’s been well worth waiting for.
After exploding onto the scene in 2009 with a huge debut vinyl release on Subtitles, Ulterior Motive have gone from strength to strength with a string of successful releases on labels such as Critical Music, Symmetry Recordings, Subtitles and Metalheadz and can regularly been seen stepping up to the decks at some of the most prestigious drum and bass events across the globe including Sun and Bass, Dimensions and Outlook Festival.
This latest instalment from the duo demonstrates a wealth of production talent with two very diverse tracks. The A side, entitled M.I.R (Make It Roll) does exactly what it says on the tin, a devastating roller that I guarantee you will rewind the moment it drops just to double check you didn’t imagine it. Personally it takes me back to old Break on Quarantine circa 2006/7, there’s something about that drum pattern and use of the shakers that gets me going every time.
The B side, entitled “Given Contact” takes it down a notch into something a little moodier and darker, paying homage to older Metalheadz releases. Definitely a track for the more mature and educated ear with crashing amens and dirty breaks, skilfully polished to create a perfect juxtaposition between the older gritty releases and clinical modern day styles.
The single is due to drop on both vinyl and MP3 on the 14th July, head over to the metalheadz store to preorder your copy.
