In-Reach rolled down to Fabric last Friday to catch Metalheadz taking over room 2. We stepped in as Ant TC1 was behind the controls. He’s one of a few DJ’s that still represents vinyl, and he always draws for the classics. The first track we heard was Ed Rush & Opticals ‘Watermelon’, a personal favourite from the Virus back cat. Finely tuned bass accompanied with hard hitting drums. As always, he played loads of new Dispatch bits. We only really caught the last 15 mins which was unfortunate, but from what we heard Ant was rocking it!
Next up Doc Scott stepped in. He played a different style of drum & bass. Edging towards the deeper, half time dnb. Don’t get me wrong I really enjoyed his set, I just felt the energy was slightly lost on the dance floor leading on from Ant. Not everyone appreciated it, but a wicked selection none-the-less.
Head honcho Goldie was up next. He’s known more for his selection and production expertise more than his mixing. Anyway, In-Reach had word that Goldie was ready to hurt us with some new ‘Studio Pressure’ material. Those of you that don’t know, Studio Pressure is an alias for the legendary ‘Photek’ who stopped making dnb years ago. So we were extremely excited to hear this of course 🙂 As to be expected it sounded incredible! Watch out, Photek is back in full force. Other tunes we heard were Dom & Roland’s The Unofficial Jah, which is dropping on Metalhadz real soon. Om Units new single also got drawn for; Grey Skies Over Chigao/ Sleepwalkers. Headz are definitely keeping on form this year that’s for sure! Check out the clips below:
Brazilian born S.P.Y was straight up after Goldie. He’s a producer that’s been on everyone’s radar since his first release on med school back in 2006. He went straight in with his trademark SPY selection; rolling beats with hard hitting bass. He played combination of old and new, but I only really remember hearing ‘Digital & Spirits – Phantom Force’ as by this time we were all heavily induced! :s
Jubei was the last person we caught over in room 2. He was joined by good friend SP:MC. Jubei’s forthcoming album ”To Have & Have Not’ is now mastered and ready to drop in October on Headz. In-Reach were lucky enough to hear some cuts of this highly anticipated album in the dance. All I can say is you’re in for a treat! 😉
Big thanks to Fabric once again for letting us down! Also shout to the Nurtured Beatz crew who rolled along with In-Reach. Check out some pics from the night below:[fsg_gallery id=”7″]
