Mako – A Break From Ritual (Warm Communications)

To round off 2013 we see the last release on Warm Communications from talented artist Mako. Warm Comms have had a big year in terms of releases, including artists such as Seba, Lynx & remixs from Blu Mar Ten. Mako delivers this solid 12″ release with ‘A Break From Ritual’ on one side, backed with ‘What a Little Moonlight Can Do’ on the flip.

The first side ‘A Break From A Ritual’ is a mixture of drum patterns and funk breaks. The song intro’s with a classic sample from Nas’s classic Illmatic album. You hear Apaches, Amens and Think breaks clatter smoothly over top with a monstrous bassline. This will definitely satisfy both the contemporary and old school heads. A personal favourite on this release.

The flip ‘What a Little Moonlight Can Do’ plays homeage to a classic Good Looking break, layered over the top with deep swirling pads and growling bass, this time with a half time approach. This one works very well in either club or for home listening.

This is a buy on site release from super talented artist Mako. Watch out for a number of his releases in 2014 on Utopia Music, Metalheadz and Dispatch. You can buy this release on vinyl/digital here.
