[dropcap]W[/dropcap]hen most people look back at the year 1987 they will be instantly teleported back to that iconic moment that weather man Michael Fish told us all not to worry because “there isn’t going to be a hurricane”. For sneaker heads however, 1987 was iconic for very different reasons as it was the year that Mark Parker and Tinker Hatfield founded the original Nike Air Max 1 OG.
It beggars belief to think that even after some 27 years, the iconic AM1 has only grown in popularity, with countless colour ways, re designs and collaborations under it’s belt and all with un rivalled success. With this in mind it seems only fitting to pay homage to the shoe that has inspired even the most prolific sneaker head’s collections.
In October of this year, the lovely chaps behind the street wear brand ‘Known’ got together with a whole host of OG enthusiasts such as sneaker customiser “Foes One”, the team at Air Max Always and the phenomenally talented Kicks Posters, to name but a few, to create a limited line of tees that pay tribute to the original ’87 AM1. The tee itself is heather grey with red and white print, staying true to Known’s ethos of “high quality and bespoke fit” clothing.
Needless to say the concept was resounding success with un paralleled support from the sneaker community. When the tees where all but gone, I’d even go as far as to say I was sad it was over, a ludicrous assumption on my part as the ’87 OG tee was only the beginning . . .
Just one month on and the team have since released a Kid Robot AM1 inspired tee and are just about to launch a 5 year celebratory tee in honour of the Nike x Patta ‘Purple Denim’ and a crew neck and tee collection in honour of the Nike x Atmos ‘Elephants’, due to drop at 6pm GMT on 14th November. For a glimpse of the designs ahead of the release check out the Known blog or follow Air Max Always, Known, Kicks Posters or Foes One of Instagram.
